Checklist For All Supplied Files

  1. The most current hard copy must accompany the file. If sending the file via modem, you must mail or fax the hard copy separately. All files must be proofed by customer before printing will commence to ensure the integrity of the piece.
  2. Please indicate specifications on the hard copy: Color breaks, folding specs, FPO's. This is very important to ensure proper handling of your file. Specify size and color used.
  3. Are all fonts PostScript fonts? Using True-Type fonts may produce unexpected results - use PostScript whenever possible. All fonts - Printer and Screen - must accompany file (including any used to create imported objects). If creating logos in drawing applications, please convert type to curves/outlines/paths.
  4. Have all text effects been properly applied? Use actual stylized typefaces. Avoid listing styles found in software applications (i.e. bold, italic, outline, and shadow - they may produce unexpected results when printing).
  5. Are all imported graphic images clearly identified and up-to-date? Include all placed and imported TIFF and EPS files. All fonts must be converted to curves (preferred) or included on disk. Bitmap images should be saved in TIFF format and Vector images should be saved in EPS format. These are the only acceptable formats for printed matter. Be especially aware of placed images in your graphics files. These can produce unexpected results if not included on disk. Graphics should be scanned at no less than 300 dpi and must be converted to CMYK mode if printing with 4 color process inks. Do not enlarge imported files. They must be scanned at the proper resolution to size in order to avoid interpolation. Do not rotate imported objects. This may produce unexpected results. Do not crop imported objects. Objects that are cropped after they are imported still have to process the entire image when printing. As a rule, it is better to size, crop and rotate your images BEFORE they are placed in your document. USE EPS OR TIFF ONLY - DO NOT USE JPEG, GIF OR BMP FILES. THESE ARE LOW RESOLUTION FILES MEANT FOR INTERNET USE ONLY!!!!! Please do not use pictures or objects copied from the internet.
  6. Are all colors defined correctly? All colors to print as PMS colors should have the PMS color specified in the file and on the hard copy, especially if it is a metallic or fluorescent color. If a color is meant to separate in 4 color process it should be CMYK. Be sure that your colors in all programs used have the same name EXACTLY. If not, unexpected results may occur. Do not rely on your monitor to accurately represent ink on paper - please refer to standard color guides when choosing color.
  7. Have you clearly communicated all elements that should overprint, reverse out or trap in your project? Trapping should be set in your original application program. (We prefer a setting of 0.25 points.) Not setting the trap may cause registering problems on the press.
  8. Does the file have a clearly defined name? (If sending a revised file, please label it revised and include date and revision).9. Print out a directory list of what is included in your file.
